Updating a Blog: A NEW Look & Feel for The Writer’s Refuge Next Week

The Writer’s Refuge blog was launched in May of 2011. Our mission was to provide a “refuge” for writers to get away from the daily pressures and deadlines of the writing life, and for just a few minutes, find insight, inspiration or simply a brief word of encouragement.

That mission continues today but just as you strive to keep your writing fresh, my goal is to keep this blog fresh in both content and “look & feel.” So beginning next Thursday, March 1st, The Writer’s Refuge will feature a whole NEW look.

What will change? The font will be a serif type and will be a little larger so the text will be easier to read. The background color will have a warm glow so it is easy on the eyes. A color change throughout will give the blog a new feel. Headlines will be bolder. The text will be printed on a simulated Classic Linen paper stock so you will feel like you’re reading—what else—a book. It’s just one more way to visually say, “This blog is for writers.”

What won’t change is the content and my personal commitment to encouraging you to never give up on your dream, calling or compulsion to write. You’ll also find tips for the writing life gleaned from my experience as both a freelance writer and a manager of a communications department. But you’ll find something more. I will also include insights, advice and pithy quotes from other writers who share our “love of the game.”

In the end, The Writer’s Refuge will remain just that, a refuge for you, the new or professional writer to get away from the stress of the daily grind, hear an encouraging word, and then recommit yourself to keep hammering away at this privilege we call “the writing life.”
